BRASHEAR LP SELECTED AS THE 2004 SUBCONTRACTOR OF THE
YEAR FOR U.S. SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (REGION
3)
Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, June 7, 2004:
Brashear LP is
pleased to announce that they have been selected as
the 2004 Subcontractor of the Year for the U.S. Small
Business Administration (SBA) Mid-Atlantic Region.
Each year the Small
Business Administration accepts nominees of small
businesses for their hard work, innovative ideas and
dedication to our Nation's economy from each of 10
regions. This year the winners were announced at the
37th Annual National Procurement Center
Conference and Expo, on May 21, 2004, at the Orange
County Convention Center in Orlando, FLA.
Lockheed Martin Missile
and Space Division located in Sunnyvale, CA, nominated
Brashear for this prestigious award. Brashear LP is
currently under contract to Lockheed to design and
fabricate the optical components for the Airborne
Laser program for the U.S. Air Force, which is carried
aboard a modified Boeing 747-400F freighter. Capable
of autonomous operation at altitudes above the clouds,
the Airborne Laser (ABL) will locate and track
missiles in the boost phase of their flight, then
accurately point and fire the high-energy laser,
destroying enemy missiles near their launch areas. The
Air Force envisions a fleet of seven ABL aircraft,
rapidly deployable anywhere around the globe to
provide a strong deterrent to any potential use of
ballistic missiles.
"We are very proud to
be recognized as an outstanding small business", said
Dawn Rucker, COO of Brashear LP. "Our greatest
corporate strength is our human capital. Brashear
employees are solving tough technical problems for our
customers and making a difference in the science and
technology communities both globally and locally."
