Launch Vehicle Communications and Control

L3 Cincinnati Electronics (L3 CE) began contributing to launch vehicle success in 1953. L3 CE products include an extensive family of command/receiver, command/receiver/decoders, S-Band transmitters, video and other operational products. L3 CE has been on all major U.S. launches.

L3 CE has designed products for Atlas and Delta evolved expendable launch vehicles (EELVs), Space Launch System (SLS) and has a long history with the Space Shuttle. Additionally, L3 CE has expanded its EELV class launch vehicle avionics capabilities to include 1553 commanded remote control units as well as 1553 commanded pyrotechnic initiatives for first-stage boosters and upper-stage vehicles. L3 CE is dedicated to providing reliable technologically-advanced launch vehicle products. L3 is providing the next-generation EELV updated avionics suite on the EELV program. 

S-BAND TELEMETRY

L3 Cincinnati Electronics (L3 CE) offers a selection of S-Band Telemetry Transmitters for launch vehicles. Four designs of S-Band Telemetry Transmitters are available to accommodate various launch vehicle telemetry needs.

T-709 TDRSS Telemetry Transmitter for use on Launch Vehicles

Model T-709 S-Band TDRSS Telemetry Transmitter uplinks telemetry data through the NASA Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) for downlinking to the TDRS System Ground Network. This provides complete telemetry coverage during (vehicle) ascent and staging without the aid of downrange telemetry data gathering stations. T-706 S-Band FM Telemetry Transmitter for use on Launch Vehicles

Model T-706 S-Band FM telemetry transmitter is designed for use on launch vehicles to downlink performance data to ground receivers during all phases of the vehicle ascent to orbit. Contact Business Development and request a data sheet

T-710 S-Band Telemetry Transmitter for use on Launch Vehicles

Model T-710 low-power S-Band BPSK/QPSK Telemetry Transmitter downlinks data providing direct telemetry information from the launch vehicle. The input data for the unit can be converted to NRZ-M and convolutionally encoded prior to transmission. Two-port RF output power routability is offered in a lightweight 4.5 lb. mechanical package. Model T-711 S-Band TDRSS Telemetry Transmitter uplinks telemetry data to the NASA Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) for downlinking to the TDRS System Ground Network, providing complete telemetry coverage during ascent and staging without the aid of downrange telemetry data gathering stations. Booster Control and Power Distribution Unit (BCPDU)

L3 Cincinnati Electronics’ (L3 CE) Booster Control and Power Distribution Unit (BCPDU) is a Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) that was designed for use on NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) vehicle. It is the primary link between the Core Stage and Solid Rocket Boosters on the vehicle, providing Thrust Vector Control (TVC) and Power Distribution.
