Computerized state-of-the-art planning and tracking systems are utilized for a quick turn, high volume environment. Incoming Inspection & Test
L-3 Communications offers a complete service capability for your incoming inspection & test requirements for Commercial, Military, and NASA Space based programs. Services include review of your material requirements, generating inspection, test and sampling plans, performing inspection and testing of electrical & mechanical devices, marking parts, generating data packages and shipping material.

The L-3 MQC is fully facilitated to handle a large volume of simple and complex electrical and mechanical components and systems and is a fast, easy alternative for fulfilling all incoming inspection appraisal and test needs and requirements. Quick turn-around is our specialty.

Parts Program Management

L-3 Communications is staffed with highly skilled Components Engineers experienced in implementing and managing Parts Control Programs on numerous Military & Space Programs IAW Mil-STD-965 and associated specifications. Services include generating Source & Specification Control Drawings. Program Parts Selection Lists. Parts Application Reviews, NSPARS - Customer/Gov't interface, Testing & Screening Plans, Failure Analysis (Root Cause & Corrective Action), Destructive Physical Analysis (DPA).

EEE Parts Testing
L-3 Communications maintains extensive component test facilities for all types of active and passive electrical components (including LSI & VLSI) to support incoming test requirements, screening/up-screening, Qualification, Burn-In, and Life test requirements.

Functional parametric part test facilities are enhanced by the capability to add environmental stresses such as thermal cycling, thermal shock, thermal vacuum, humidity, altitude, and mechanical shock & vibration. In addition to conducting tests in accordance with Military Standards (MIL-STD-883 & MIL-STD-810), L-3 Communications can implement a wide variety of custom tests tailored to specific program needs.

Failure Analysis/Destructive Physical Analysis

Supplementing the Parts Testing capabilities, the MQC is fully facilitated to conduct Failure Analysis & Destructive Physical Analysis (DPA) on a wide variety of electrical and mechanical devices. Specific capabilities include Microscopic Photography, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Fluorescence, UV Visible Spectrometry, Radiography, Atomic Absorption Spectrometry, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry, Metalography, P.I.N.D., Hermetically Seal Fine & Gross Leak Detection, Die Shear, Bond Pull, Hardness Testing, Tensile Testing, and numerous electrical parametric and materials failure identification techniques.
All analysis and test are documented in formal test reports which include techniques utilized to determine root cause and recommendations for corrective action and material disposition.

Environmental Lab Testing

L-3 Communications provides comprehensive Environmental Lab Testing facilities for Qualification and Reliability Acceptance Testing of Equipment and Systems, as well as components. Capabilities include Thermal Cycling, Thermal Shock, Temperature/Humidity, Thermal Vacuum, Immersion, and Altitude. Sine and Random Vibration & Mechanical Shock testing can be performed on both the equipment and its packaging to determine structural responses and integrity for qualification and acceptance testing. Rapid design and fabrication of test fixtures make fixturing "not a problem" at L-3 Communications.

Middle: Complex mechanical items requiring numerous measurements are efficiently handled with one of the MQC's numerous Coordinate Measurement Machines.

Above: L-3 Components and Materials Engineering developed and manages the Parts Control Program including parts selection, application, and approval, NSPARS, failure analysis, DPA, Screening & Testing of the entire Communications & Tracking System of the International Space Station as well as for numerous NASA based satellite programs.

Thermal & Vibration Analysis & Survey Tests

Data acquisition for both thermal and modal responses prove invaluable to Design Engineers. L-3 frequently conducts thermal & vibration surveys to determine internal temperature rises, thermal inertia, hot spot temperature determination, and resonant frequency & amplification factors of structural responses for various types of electronics equipment.


Chemicals & Materials Engineering Support

L-3 Communications is fully facilitated and staffed for Chemical & Materials Engineering and Metallurgy support for a wide variety of program support needs and requirements. Specific capabilities include identification of Organic and Inorganic Materials, Solder Analysis, Material Verification, Plating Thickness, PCB Evaluation and Repairs, Cross-Section Analysis, Potting/De-Potting, Grinding & Polishing, Thermal Analysis and a wide variety Materials Selection, Testing and Analysis techniques.

EMI/EMC/TEMPEST

L-3 Communications provides a unique capability with a fully facilitated EMI/EMC/TEMPEST lab. EMI/EMC testing in NACSIM-5100A, NACSEM-5112, NSRISSAM 1-91 & 1-92, KAG-30 and NSA 65-6 can be performed as well as the development of custom test plans.
