3.1 FACILITIES AND PROCESSES
L3DS approval of the seller's facilities and processes is required. If the seller
uses facilities other than their own for any processing or manufacturing, those
facilities also require L3DS approval. All certifications supplied as objective
evidence must indicate the name and location of all facilities performing processes.
3.2 PROCESS CHANGES
The seller shall notify L3DS Quality Assurance of the intent
to change manufacturing processes or construction which may
affect the quality or reliability of PWB’s previously approved
by L3DS Quality Assurance. Changes may not be made without
the prior written approval of L3DS Quality Assurance.
3.3 PRODUCTION MASTERS
When artwork is furnished to the seller by L3DS, it is for
information only and L3DS makes no representations with respect
thereto. It is the seller's responsibility, prior to the
start of production, to verify that the artwork is compatible
with the seller's manufacturing process and that the items
produced therefrom will meet the drawing specifications and
all other requirements of the Purchase Order. When Gerber
files are furnished to the seller by L3DS the Gerber is the
definitive document for PWB production. Any discrepancy between
the Gerber file and other procurement documentation must
be resolved prior to production.
3.3.1 CHANGES
The seller shall not make changes to the L3DS master artwork
or Gerber files without prior written approval by L3DS.
3.3.2 REVISION LEVELS
The seller is responsible for manufacture of PWB’s to correct
revision levels. The seller is responsible for verifying
the current revision of master artwork, film or Gerber file
prior to the start of production.
3.4 WORKMANSHIP
Workmanship shall meet the requirements of the drawings and
applicable specifications as called out in the Purchase Order.
The supplier should pay special attention to the following
requirements:
1. ETCHING
There shall not be any evidence of over-etching or under-etching,
as evidenced by excessive undercutting or overhang.
2. CONDUCTORS
Conductors shall not exhibit any evidence of lifting (delamination)
from the base material.
3. MARKING, SPECIAL
All PWB’s shall be marked permanently and legibly with
the L3DS assigned Vendor Code Number followed by the four
(4) digit date code (year and week), where space permits
in an area free of circuitry, on the component side of
the board.
4. IPC-6011 TEST REQUIREMENTS – RIGID AND FLEXIBLE
PRINTED WIRING BOARDS
Quality Conformance Inspection (QCI) shall be performed
in accordance with IPC-6011 and IPC- 6012 or 6013, as applicable.
Unless otherwise specified, rework simulation testing is
required.
3.5 MICROSECTIONS
L3DS reserves the right to review, at the seller’s facility
or at L3DS, the microsections prepared for QCI on a lot.
L3DS also reserves the right to have microsections prepared
by an independent lab using coupons from the production
lot. Coupons and microsections shall be retained by the
seller and available for review for a minimum of three
years after delivery of a lot to L3DS. Coupon design may
be either as specified on the artwork or Gerber file or
in accordance with current specifications.
3.5.1 MULTILAYER BOARDS
The microsection samples shall be taken from the test coupons
selected from the boards which were located as close as
possible to the center of the plating tank. Each sample
shall contain no less than three (3) of the smallest hole
sizes.
3.5.2 OTHER PRINTED WIRING BOARDS
The microsection samples may be taken from "scrapped" or "test" boards.
The boards selected shall have been located as close as
possible to the center of the plating tank. Each sample
shall contain no less than three (3) of the smallest size
holes.
3.6 CONTINUITY TESTS
Unless otherwise specified, continuity testing shall be
performed on all multilayer PWB’s. Continuity testing
shall be performed on single and double-sided boards when
required by procurement documents. Objective evidence
of such tests shall be maintained by the seller and be
available for review by L3DS representatives, in accordance
with paragraph 4.2 of this document.
All final tests as required by IPC-6011 and IPC-6012 or
6013 (as applicable) shall be performed by the seller prior
to shipment to L3DS.
3.7 PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT
3.7.1 FINAL CLEANING
1 - PWB’s shall be thoroughly cleaned to be free from dirt,
oil, grease, corrosion, finger prints, flux residue, and
other contaminants that may deteriorate their quality during
storage.
2 - Multilayer PWB’s shall be dried prior to packaging
in a manner that will ensure that the moisture content
of the air in the package will not compromise the integrity
of the PWB’s.
3.7.2 PACKAGING
Unless otherwise specified in the P.O., drawing or specifications,
PWB’s shall be packaged as follows:
Individually packaged in sealed transparent bags to be
adequately protected against damage during shipping and
storage. It is permissible to package five (5) individually
packaged PWB’s within one sealed transparent bag.
