Rolling Meadows – April 28, 2009 —L-3 Communications Electrodynamics (EDI) announced that it has completed qualification testing for its Crash Survivable Memory Unit (CSMU) for the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II fighter aircraft. With this qualification milestone completed, EDI immediately moves into Low Rate Initial Production of the units, with deliveries scheduled to begin in January 2009.
“Successful completion of the qualification testing for the F-35 CSMU is a major milestone in our F-35 development and production program,” said Donald Spetter, L-3 EDI president. “It validates our design philosophy and is another success story for our SRVIVR® family of small, lightweight crash survivable data recorders.”
The F-35 CSMU was designed to meet or exceed the crash survivability requirements of EUROCAE ED112, which defines the minimum operational performance specifications for crash protected airborne recorder systems. In addition to its robust design, the F-35 CSMU is the smallest and lightest crash recorder in use today weighing less than 4.5 lbs.
