ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., April 11, 2011 – L-3 Electrodynamics, Inc. (L-3 EDI) announced today that it has received Technical Standard Order (TSO) authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its SRVIVR® Cockpit Voice Flight Data Recorder (CVFDR) product family. TSO authorization certifies that the SRVIVR recorders meet the most current FAA requirements for data, voice and data link recording on civilian aircraft.
“The FAA’s TSO authorization of the SRVIVR recorder family is a strategic step toward making our state-of-the-art recorder technology available for COTS products serving both commercial and military markets,” said Donald Spetter, president of L-3 EDI. “The flexibility, size and weight of our units make them an outstanding choice for both fixed-wing and helicopter applications.”
More compact than today’s standard recorders, L-3’s SRVIVR CVFDRs are designed to communicate directly with modern avionics systems, eliminating the need for separate data acquisition units – a feature that can help improve operational efficiency and provide lower support costs for today’s aircraft. SRVIVR meets or exceeds the requirements of EUROCAE ED-112, which defines the minimum operational performance specifications for crash-protected airborne recorder systems and ensures data retrieval, even in the event of a fire.
