Endeavour®5 is an Electronic Chart System (ECS)
for Microsoft Windows® PCs and Laptops using
official raster and vector charts. Endeavour®5
integrates a number of key navigational
components into a single system; the digital
hydrographic chart, the ship’s position (using GPS/
DGPS, other sensors and dead reckoning), chart
work, route construction, route planning and route
monitoring are combined to simplify navigation
and provide real time information to the mariner.
Endeavour®5 caters for all areas of the maritime
market from recreational users to commercial and
military vessels.
A key feature of Endeavour®5 is its simple to use
and intuitive user interface. It enables the
navigator to perform most operations with a
minimal number of mouse clicks (or touch-screen,
if installed).
The system allows various navigation objects to be
created such as routes, alternative routes, notes,
bearing lines and manual corrections. Once a route
has been selected, the vessel can be monitored in
respect to the route and warnings given if the
vessel goes off course. As the vessel moves off one
chart, a new chart is automatically displayed and
the vessel plotted on it.
Endeavour®5 has been designed to take full
advantage of the Microsoft Windows® XP and
Vista operating systems. Endeavour®5 also uses a
sophisticated object database that maintains the
mariner’s navigation objects such as waypoints,
routes, specific points of interest, etc. The
database provides very good security for the user’s
navigation data. In addition to this database, all
data that are logged during a trip can be saved in
a log file for analysis purposes.
