The WAVE application has been specifically developed to provide nautical data producers with a powerful QA application for maritime data display, inspection, verification and validation.

A key feature of WAVE is that it displays electronic chart data as the mariner sees it, allowing the operator to make presentation decisions based on the display combinations of chart data.

WAVE can be used to manually check both ENC and RNC products for correctness and consistency between different chart and display scales.

The application also contains automated tools that allow the user to review ENC updates and evaluate all differences between versions of the chart. This function is mandatory during ENC production and NTM maintenance.

WAVE has been designed to not only meet the QA needs of data producers but also to fill the important role of performance testing ENC and RNC data.

The automated Cell Difference tool allows ENCs to be compared and differences identified. Each difference is outlined in the query list and can be selected and highlighted in the display. The selected feature’s Object and Attributes values are also listed.

This functionality can be used during the edit correction cycle of production or to ensure that ENC updates (NTMs) have been applied correctly.

WAVE also has a powerful filter allowing custom search combinations to filter and list all features in an ENC. Once selected, the user can step though all of the features by selecting them from the list.

WAVE loads and displays encrypted ENC and RNC data as well as unencrypted ENC and GeoTIFF data, allowing the user to review pre release or production data against published encrypted data.

Where there is overlapping ENC and RNC coverage, both products need to be aligned to ensure that mariners have the same information irrespective of the medium they choose for navigation.

WAVE allows both RNC and ENC products to be displayed and compared using the adjustable transparency tool. ENC to ENC, ENC to RNC and RNC to RNC can be compared using this tool.

The ability to display and interrogate ENC and RNC data from different scale ranges allows the user to identify issues concerning location, encoding and generalisation of chart features.

This alignment of data between chart scales ensures that the mariner is presented with a consistent representation when changing charts or display scales.
