Product Description
Similar in size and weight to the internationally
accepted leader in dipping sonar, Ocean System's mid-frequency AN/AQS-18(V),
the HELRAS has been installed on SH-3, EH-101, and SH-60 helicopters. In fact
the cable interface, sonar processor, sonar control unit, display, reeling
machine and control devices are common between the 10 kHz AQS-18 and the 1.38 kHz
\HELRAS systems.
Applications
The HELRAS is capable of depths up to 500 m and
has figure-of-merit sufficient to achieve convergence zone detections
in deep water, and transmission/receive characteristics optimized for
extremely long ranges in shallow water. The low frequency designed into
HELRAS using proprietary transducer and beam forming technology allow
multiple boundary interactions and reduced reverberation contamination
of the received signals.
In addition to HELRAS's long range surveillance and search capability,
it is also well suited to redetection, target localization and weapon
delivery against deep and shallow water targets.
Key Benefits and Features
Ocean Systems' use of high resolution Doppler
processing and shaped pulses achieve detections of targets even at
speeds below 1 knot. Extended duration FM pulses are available to
detect the near-zero Doppler target as well.
