New L-3 Telemetry Division Offers Broad Range of Test and
Telemetry Solutions
NEW
YORK, NY, October 24, 2001 - L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL)
announced today the formation of Telemetry-West, a new business
unit that combines three of its San Diego-based telemetry
divisions, Telemetry & Instrumentation (T&I), Conic and Southern
California Microwave, into a single company providing a full
range of telemetry solutions. The new business capitalizes
on intercompany synergies and directly responds to the telemetry
industry's increased need for full spectrum product suppliers,
while dramatically increasing the efficiencies of L-3's West
Coast telemetry operations. Telemetry-West will be headquartered
at Conic's existing L-3 owned facility in the heart of industrial
San Diego.
The
newly formed Telemetry-West division combines T&I's ground
systems expertise and Conic's airborne telemetry, space TT&C/payload
and terrestrial radio capabilities with Southern California
Microwave's telemetry and surveillance products. The division
will serve commercial, military and civilian telemetry, test
and data acquisition customers worldwide, with a product offering
that includes telemetry ground system components and solutions,
TT&C satellite transponders, high data rate satellite transmitters,
high-power amplifiers, high-reliability receivers/transmitters,
encryption/decryption units, video compression/decompression
units, tactical intelligence radios, terrestrial HF and microwave
radios and specialized telemetry and surveillance products.
Telemetry-West
will be headed by Burt Smith, who was appointed division president
by Alan Dietrich, president of L-3's Telemetry Group. Mr.
Smith comes to Telemetry-West from L-3's Ocean Systems division,
where he held numerous operations and business management
positions, and most recently served as chief operating officer.
"Over
the past year, we have focused on our core telemetry businesses
and how to leverage our people, technology and strong product
positions to most effectively serve our test and telemetry
customers," said Alan Dietrich, president of L-3's Telemetry
Group. "By way of maximizing product synergies and streamlining
operating efficiencies, the formation of Telemetry-West is
a major step in that direction. I am confident that under
Burt's leadership this new division, with its broad range
of leading-edge telemetry offerings, will deliver the greatest
price/performance value possible to our customer base."
