The VCS700 Extends L-3's Growing Line of Miniaturized Telemetry
Products
San Diego, CA, February 22, 2002 - The Conic enterprise of
L-3 Communications' (NYSE:LLL) newly formed Telemetry-West
division announced today that it is introducing the VCS700
Video Compression System, a highly advanced product that delivers
exceptional performance and value for a wide range of mission-critical
video compression applications, including bomb impact and
damage assessment, surveillance and detection. Taking full
advantage of an innovative application of existing technology,
the VCS700 utilizes a wavelet compression algorithm, which
provides superior video quality and compression performance
to what is currently available with JPEG and MPEG compression
equipment. The new hardware is available for delivery now,
with orders currently shipping.
The VCS700 is the latest addition to L-3's line of miniaturized,
modular and ruggedized product solutions for telemetry and
surveillance. The system consists of a miniaturized, fully
programmable airborne video compression unit and a ground-based
PCI bus decompression card to provide a small, cost-effective
solution for a host of applications limited by bandwidth constraints.
In its basic configuration, the VCS700 can accept up to four
video inputs and can be expanded to provide eight or more
video interfaces.
"Our
new video compression product provides a smaller and less
costly solution for video customers who have bandwidth limitations.
In addition, the use of wavelet technology provides performance
that is superior to any other video compression product on
the market today," said Dick Perry, business development director
for the Conic enterprise of L-3 Telemetry-West. "We are seeing
a very strong interest in this product, both domestically
and internationally. Applications for the VCS700 go outside
the bounds of the traditional telemetry market, and we expect
that segment of the marketplace to grow significantly over
the next several years."
L-3 Communications Telemetry-West leads the telemetry and
test industry in the design and manufacture of advanced real-time
