The Onboard Precision Auto Landing
System (O-PALS)
is a software and sensor package used in conjunction
with L-3 Geneva’s flightTE K® flight control unit and
missionTE K™ control station to enable the autonomous
launch and recovery of unmanned aircraft at fixed
recovery sites.* The system increases the operational flexibility
of UAS s and reduces the operations and support costs.
O-PALS uses an altimeter for onboard
precision
altitude reference and does not require any ground
aiding or tracking system infrastructure at the
landing site. The design is compatible with SBAS
or differential GPS capability if available. The system
requires geodetic landing site parameters that are
entered into the missionTE K airfield database.
Once configured and installed in the host aircraft
the system gives the operator push button launch
and recovery capability.
